Do you know how to tell the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke?

Signs of Heat Exhaustion include:
🔸 Heavy sweatingand a “prickly heat” sensation
🔸 Pale, clammy skin
🔸 Dizziness or weakness
🔸 Headache
🔸 Nausea or vomiting
🔸 Muscle cramps

Move your child to a cool place and initiate simple cooling measures (such as ice packs, fanning, cold towels) along with drinking water.

Signs of Heat Stroke:
🔸Throbbing/severe headache
🔸Muscle Cramps
🔸Nausea/vomiting
🔸𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 (𝟭𝟬𝟰°𝗙 𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿)
🔸𝗔𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘀 (𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗶𝘇𝘂𝗿𝗲)

Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Call 911 immediately. While waiting for help, move your child to a cooler area and begin cooling them with cool water, ice packs, or cool, wet towels. Do not force fluids if they are confused or unconscious.

Knowing the difference can make all the difference. Stay hydrated, take frequent breaks in the shade, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.*

You don’t owe your pediatrician an apology:

🔹For children being loud or interrupting. We’re good at tuning out!
🔹 If your child doesn’t sit still: It’s hard to be patient in a new environment.
🔹 For Crying: Kids cry. Parents cry. We all cry sometimes. Emotions are ok here.

If it matters to you, it matters to us! 😀
We know you have options when it comes to your child's care. At Medical Center Pediatrics, we're proud to partner with your family through every stage of childhood, providing personalized care from physicians who know your child, not just their symptoms.

Here's how we're different from nearby urgent cares and corporate pediatric offices:

🔹 Locally owned and invested in our community
🔹 Caring for Metro Detroit families for generations
🔹 We have the freedom to make decisions based solely on what is best for your child's health
🔹 Multilingual physicians to better serve every family
🔹 Appointments with a board-certified pediatrician every time
🔹 Comprehensive long-term care management
🔹 Proud to give back through local outreach and support

When your child needs care, choose a team that knows them, grows with them, and is here for your family every step of the way. 💙
